About this role

Lafarge people are passionate about finding better ways to build, embracing innovation and improvement with a pioneering spirit. They work as trusted partners, creating better solutions and experiences for customers, communities, and colleagues. The role ensures the Quarry runs safely and efficiently to deliver raw materials.

The Mining Engineer coordinates Drill & Blast, Overburden, Operations, Fuel Station, ME Workshop, and Crushing teams to meet production targets. Responsibilities include enforcing safety plans aligned with regional HSMS, conducting weekly briefings, and quarry inspections per the safety handbook. Daily supervision covers equipment checks and documentation.

Day-to-day involves defining mining strategies for grade control drilling, drill and blast, load and haul. Tasks include crusher feed blending, forecast calculations for drilling meters, waste mined, ore tonnage, and grades. Field supervision ensures bench setup, productivity, haul cycles, road conditions, and equipment issues.

Collaboration occurs with Quarry Supervisor for maximum utilization of digging units and trucks, plus QA/QC on blasted patterns. Consultation with mine planner addresses production drilling, blast design, geological structures, and rock hardness. Assists in drill and blast budgets, forecasts, and cost studies for operations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of quarry safety procedures and HSMS
  • Experience coordinating drill and blast operations and geo-technical wall control
  • Familiarity with grade control drilling and crusher feed blending
  • Proficiency in supervising excavators, dump trucks, and production equipment
  • Understanding of mining strategy, forecasting, and QA/QC for blasted patterns
  • Ability to identify geological structures and adjust blasting parameters

Responsibilities

  • Enforce implementation of effective safety action plan including training, communication, audit aligned with HSMS, weekly safety briefings and quarry inspections
  • Coordinate and monitor drilling and blasting designs and planning to ensure maximum utilization of production drilling equipment
  • Improve production rates for excavators, dump trucks, drilling and blasting patterns to increase fragmentation
  • Conduct daily supervision of production equipment, pre-start checks, and safety documentations
  • Define daily mining operations strategy including grade control drilling, drill and blast, load and haul
  • Perform daily forecast calculations for grade control, blast holes drilling meters, waste material, ore mined, and crusher feed tonnage
  • Coordinate with Quarry Supervisor to ensure maximum utilization of digging units and dump trucks
  • Consult with mine planner on production drilling, blast design, geological structures, and blasting parameters
