About this role

Holcim UK seeks a Trainee Operative/Shotfirer for Westleigh Quarry in Tiverton. Reporting to the Quarry Manager, you will join the blasting team. Your core role involves planning and preparation of drilling and blasting sites, plus designing blasts and compiling specifications.

Adhere to strict health and safety rules while following safe systems of work, procedures, and Shot Firing Rules. Work Monday to Friday from 7AM till 5PM as part of the team. Take all directions from the Shotfirer and Explosive Supervisor to ensure operations run smoothly.

Requirements

Must not be a prohibited person under the Explosive Regulations 2014
Good knowledge of explosives and extractives
Relevant qualifications for example Shotfiring certificate, associated VQ
Previous experience within a similar quarry operation desirable
Ability to work to deadline in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Good organisational skills
Ability to work as part of a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation as required

Responsibilities

Plan and prepare drilling and blasting sites
Design the blast and compile blast specifications
Adhere to and maintain strict health and safety rules
Follow safe systems of work, procedures and Shot Firing Rules
Follow all directions given by the Shotfirer and Explosive Supervisor
