Rio Tinto is seeking motivated individuals for its 2027 Apprenticeship Intake, offering FIFO opportunities from Perth, Busselton, Albany, Broome, or Geraldton. As a Mechanical Fitter (Fixed Plant) apprentice, you will work on equipment fixed to the ground such as crushers, conveyors, and reclaimers. These assets are vital for supporting the processing, transporting, and loading of iron ore across our operations, and you will learn through specially designed pathways combining on and off the job training.

Our friendly teams look after each other, with safety and wellbeing always the priority. You will receive ongoing mentoring and structured support from Supervisors, Tradespeople, Talent Development Advisors, and Indigenous Support Officers to ensure you are set up for success.

Throughout the program, you will work towards a nationally recognised Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade. You will have access to world leading technology and industry leaders, establishing a long-term career within our business and helping shape the future for our communities.

Requirements

Right to work in Australia.
Currently living in Western Australia.
Hold a current C class manual driver’s licence with a minimum of red ‘P’ plates.
Be 18 years or older from 1 February 2027 (for FIFO applicants).
Completion of a pre-apprenticeship in a relevant discipline is advantageous, but not essential.
Motivated to learn and committed to safety.
Ready to build a long-term career in the mining and energy industry.

Responsibilities

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on fixed plant equipment including crushers, conveyors, and reclaimers.
Assist in diagnosing mechanical faults and repairing machinery to support continuous iron ore processing and transport.
Carry out inspections and condition monitoring of fixed plant assets under supervision.
Operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments in line with safety procedures.
Complete both on-the-job and off-the-job training pathways to develop trade skills.
Work towards achieving a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade qualification.
Adhere to strict safety protocols and contribute to a zero-harm work environment.
