As a Fixed Plant Mechanical Apprentice, you will learn to maintain and repair equipment fixed to the ground, including crushers, conveyors, and reclaimers that support iron ore processing, transport, and loading. You'll receive on-the-job and off-the-job training with access to world-leading technology and industry leaders.

Our teams prioritise safety and wellbeing, with a culture of care, courage, and curiosity guiding how we work. You'll be supported by Supervisors, Tradespeople, Talent Development Advisors, and Indigenous Support Officers to ensure your success throughout the program.

Requirements

  • Right to work in Australia
  • Currently living in Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Port Hedland, Karratha, Dampier, Roebourne, Wickham, or surrounding communities
  • Hold a current C class manual driver's licence with a minimum of red 'P' plates
  • Be 17 years or older by 1 February 2027
  • Completion of a pre-apprenticeship in a relevant discipline is advantageous but not essential
  • Commitment to safety and a motivated attitude to learn

Responsibilities

  • Work towards a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fixed Plant) over four years
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on fixed plant equipment such as crushers, conveyors, and reclaimers
  • Support the processing, transporting, and loading of iron ore across Rio Tinto's operations
  • Participate in specially designed learning pathways combining on and off the job training
  • Receive ongoing mentoring and structured support from Supervisors, Tradespeople, and Talent Development Advisors
  • Adhere to safety protocols and contribute to a work environment where safety is the number one priority
  • Develop skills using world-leading technology and learn from industry leaders
