About this role
Holcim UK leads in innovative, sustainable building solutions for the UK construction industry. We have a new vacancy for a Trainee Shotfirer to join the team at Westleigh Quarry in Tiverton. You will report to the Quarry Manager and work as part of the blasting team.
Your core role involves planning and preparation of drilling and blasting sites, along with designing the blast and compiling the blast specification. You will adhere to strict health and safety rules, follow safe systems of work, procedures, and Shot Firing Rules. The role operates Monday to Friday from 7AM till 5PM.

Requirements
- Highly motivated individual with drive and enthusiasm
- Ability to work as part of a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation as required
- Good organisational skills
- Ability to work to deadline in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Must not be a prohibited person under the Explosive Regulations 2014
- Good knowledge of explosives and extractives
- Previous experience within a similar quarry operation desirable
- Relevant qualifications such as Shotfiring certificate or associated VQ
Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare drilling and blasting sites
- Design the blast and compile the blast specification
- Adhere to and maintain strict health and safety rules
- Follow safe systems of work, procedures and Shot Firing Rules
- Follow all directions given by the Shotfirer and Explosive Supervisor
