Xcel Energy has an exciting opportunity within its Energy Supply Power Generation team for a Power Plant Mechanical Engineer. The candidate will work with engineering staff to support the reliable and efficient operation of generation assets with primary focus on mechanical systems.

As the site Plant Engineer, duties include technical support for equipment repairs and involvement in troubleshooting for operational issues. Project management tasks cover asset improvement and budgetary planning for the site while demonstrating critical thinking in a complex operating environment.

This position supports the King Plant and metro-based Peaking facilities. The engineer works closely with Operations, Maintenance, Environmental and Projects departments to maintain safe and reliable operation of power plants across the region.

The entry level role develops technical expertise in a specialty area. Work involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys or equipment with relatively few complex features under established procedures and supervision.

Requirements

Knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in mechanical engineering assignments
Ability to travel to various Power Plants as needed throughout the region
Demonstrated critical thinking required to support a complex operating environment
Proficiency working under supervision and following established procedures

Responsibilities

Apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques to perform activities of limited scope
Support development of technical documentation including designs, testing, calculations, reports and standards
Provide ongoing technical support for project activities within Operations, Maintenance, Testing and Regulatory areas
Coordinate or lead projects or portions of projects including research, design, equipment selection and commissioning
Support bid and evaluation processes by performing basic analysis and calculations on existing documentation
Provide technical support for equipment repairs and troubleshooting of mechanical systems
Perform field engineering oversight for commissioning, testing and inspections under direct supervision
