About this role
James Madison University's Facilities Management seeks a Power Plant Mechanical Supervisor to safely and efficiently oversee steam generation and distribution services campus-wide. This role is vital to maintaining the reliable operation of the university's power plant infrastructure.
Day-to-day responsibilities include providing skilled supervision of personnel and operations, performing maintenance repair, inspection, and rebuilding of steam generating and chill water production systems. You will operate all aspects of repair and maintenance procedures on boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, valves, controls, steam traps, 3-phase electric motors, and steam distribution systems.
As a supervisor, you will train and teach employees proper procedures, repair techniques, and safety issues while troubleshooting problem areas and inspecting for defective equipment or faulty components. Collaboration with the Facilities Management team ensures seamless campus energy services.

Requirements
- Skilled use of hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, and mechanical abilities
- Ability to maintain and repair power plant and related equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of mechanical problems
- Ability to accurately interpret blueprints, sketches, work orders, and specifications to determine project requirements
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and safety guidelines
- Supervisory experience in a power plant or industrial setting
- Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures in power generation
