About this role

Mining Engineering Undergraduate Course Assistant positions are available for Summer 2026 in the Hiring Unit of Mining and Materials Engineering. The role supports MIME 203 Mine Surveying with an estimated 3 positions. Total hours per term are 64 in an intensive schedule, 7 days a week from May 7 to May 17, 2026.

Duties include providing AutoCAD demonstrations in mine surveying and grading mine surveying assignments and homework. Course assistants explain tutorial and lecture materials with the instructor during office hours. They assist in answering student questions by email or during office hours and demonstrate surveying instruments to small groups.

Assist the instructor in a collaborative academic environment at McGill University. Interact directly with undergraduate students in hands-on surveying activities. Actual hour distribution per position depends on enrolment.

Requirements

  • Public speaking ability
  • Must have specifically taken a mine surveying course; general or civil surveying course insufficient
  • Practical mine surveying experience (theory and practice) an asset
  • Proficient in English, French an asset
  • Outspoken and forthcoming, eager to discuss challenges and explain to students
  • Authorized to work in Canada and willing to work in Quebec
  • English communication both verbally and in writing
