As an Overman the primary responsibility is to ensure the safe and efficient operation of mining activities within the assigned area.
The role involves taking over shift charge, supervising dump management, face management, drain management, dewatering and haul road maintenance. Rounds are conducted to inspect benches and OB dump stability while reviewing blasting schedules and enforcing safety measures such as proper haul road maintenance and dust control.
Key internal stakeholders include Shift Incharges, Mines Manager and other department employees. External parties comprise Contractors, Contract Supervisor, Operators and DGMS Officials to maintain compliance and operational continuity across the mine.
Records of operations, safety, equipment and manpower are maintained in accordance with DGMS guidelines. Any observed or reported dangers receive prompt attention with hazardous areas fenced and incidents reported to the shift incharge and control room.
Requirements
- Diploma in Mining or any other branch of engineering with Overman certificate
- Valid driving license
- No colour blindness
- 1-5 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of DGMS guidelines for record keeping and safety compliance
Responsibilities
- Take over shift charge from the previous overman ensuring smooth transition and noting operational, safety, equipment and manpower details
- Conduct rounds in the assigned area to inspect benches, OB dumps, face management, drain management, dewatering and haul road maintenance
- Review daily blasting schedule and implement precautions to ensure safe blasting operations
- Monitor dust levels in the mine and implement dust control measures such as sprinkling water
- Monitor machinery and operators to ensure safe and secure operations taking corrective actions as necessary
- Maintain records of operations, safety, equipment and manpower in accordance with DGMS guidelines
- Carry out timely inspections and attend to any observed or reported dangers ensuring proper fencing of hazardous areas
- Respond promptly to accidents or incidents within the assigned district supervising rescue operations if required
