About this role
The Power Plant Mechanic is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems and equipment. The position involves routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex mechanical systems to ensure the building’s systems are operational and comply with all applicable codes and safety standards.
Daily work includes repairing valves, traps, separators, strainers, and plumbing fixtures along with cutting and threading pipe and making copper, PVC, and PEX connections. The mechanic also services air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems while monitoring running equipment and recording temperatures, pressures, and flow rates.
The role requires maintaining critical inventory, accounting for tools, and completing scheduled preventive maintenance with accurate documentation. Work occurs in varied conditions including high temperatures, confined spaces, elevated locations, and high noise levels while following all building codes and safety standards.
The mechanic may oversee the preventive maintenance program, monitor external contractors, and mentor engineers by providing guidance and support. Aramark notes that job duties may change or new responsibilities may be assigned without formal notice to meet operational needs.
Requirements
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and equipment, including troubleshooting and repair processes.
- Working knowledge of appropriate preventative maintenance of building systems including boilers, chillers, generators and refrigeration equipment.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions including high temperatures, confined spaces, elevated locations, low temperatures, and elevated noise levels.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Experience using multi-meters, ammeters, soldering, brazing, electrical component wiring, and other trades specific tools and equipment.
- Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building management systems (BMS/BAS).
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Repairs valves, traps, separators, strainers, and all other plumbing devices, including fixtures.
- Performs cutting and threading of pipes, sweating of copper tubing, and other plumbing connections.
- Repairs air conditioning equipment systems, plumbing, and electrical systems as required.
- Monitors running equipment, reads and records log entries including temperatures, pressures, and flow rates.
- Maintains critical inventory needed to keep operations running and accounts for tools used.
- Completes preventative maintenance as scheduled and maintains accurate documentation.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of applicable building codes and safety standards.
- May oversee the daily operations of the preventative maintenance program and monitor external contractors.
