About this role

Teck Alaska Incorporated at Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for an on-call/casual Mine Operator. The rotation schedule is 2 weeks on-site with 2 weeks off-site, reporting to the Mine Shift Supervisor. Closing date is March 28, 2024.

Mine Operators establish basic understanding of 777 haul trucks, including proper operation from one point to another, dumping locations, and loading areas under close supervision of a trainer or senior operator. They complete basic paperwork such as timesheets and walk-around inspection forms detailing location, material hauled, load count, hours worked, and equipment condition.

Operators communicate effectively with other operators, colleagues, and supervisors about assigned tasks, ensuring carryover and updates throughout the shift. They demonstrate knowledge of environmental risks and hazards, complying with MSHA and Red Dog EMS training policies while conducting daily workplace inspections to identify and correct hazards.

As a courageous safety leader, operators adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures, ensuring compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures. They show willingness to learn and advance through the Mine Operators progression, performing other duties as assigned in a team-oriented environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Prior mining or similar experience preferred
  • Strong team cooperation required
  • Performs all tasks with limited direction
  • Must work safely and follow instructions
  • Must be willing to work outdoors with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions
  • Desire to advance to higher levels in the competency development system

  • Demonstrate knowledge of environmental risks and comply with MSHA and Red Dog EMS training
  • Conduct daily workplace inspections to identify and correct hazards
  • Ensure compliance with all established policies and standard operating procedures
