About this role

The Senior Underground Mining Engineer supports mine engineering through mentorship and coaching of junior and intermediate engineers on studies and projects of varying sizes and complexity from initial concepts through execution.

This role serves as a subject matter expert while working on multiple projects simultaneously and taking on varying levels of responsibility across national or international assignments that may include extended stays.

Daily work centers on leading mine engineering efforts with resource block models to design access, mining methods, development, and infrastructure while preparing plans, schedules, and cost estimates for capital and operating expenditures.

Requirements

  • Mining Engineering Degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 25 years of experience in underground hard rock mining.
  • Advanced skills with 3D Mine Design software (Deswik required).
  • Advanced skills with Mine Scheduling Software (Deswik required).
  • Proficient with ventilation modelling, backfill systems, and rock mechanics.
  • Experience with Mine Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Prior Project Management experience.
  • Engineering and operations experience at an operating mine considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and coach junior and intermediate engineers on mining studies and projects of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Serve as Qualified Person for NI 43-101 reporting and lead technical reviews.
  • Lead mine engineering efforts including directing other engineers and technicians as required.
  • Work with resource block models to design mine access, mining methods, development, and infrastructure.
  • Prepare mine development and production plans, schedules, and capital and operating cost estimates.
  • Lead meetings and interface with clients, external consultants, contractors, and vendors.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Support business development efforts and proposal preparation.
