About this role

We are looking for a Mines Rescue Senior Advisor – Underground to support emergency response capability and preparedness within our underground mining operations. This role offers the stability of working close to home at our Salt Lake City “Urban Mine” with a Monday to Friday schedule that supports a healthy work-life balance.

Reporting to the Underground HSE Manager, you will ensure compliance with Rio Tinto HSE standards, MSHA regulations, and Underground Emergency Management procedures. Your day-to-day involves leading Emergency Response Team training, maintaining equipment readiness, and coordinating drills and exercises including underground scenarios.

Requirements

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Extensive experience in underground mining and safety
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in underground emergency response within the United States
Demonstrated experience delivering training and instruction
MSHA 40-hour certification
MSHA Blue Card with underground and mine rescue designations
Current BLS Provider (CPR/AED and First Aid) certifications
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto HSE standards, Underground Emergency Management procedures, and MSHA regulations
Lead and coordinate Emergency Response Team (ERT) training across all hazard-based response areas including medical, fire, hazmat, confined space, and underground rescue
Support development and maintenance of emergency and business resilience plans, including Emergency Response and Incident Action Plans
Maintain emergency response equipment and ensure readiness, serviceability, and compliance
Identify and source additional emergency response equipment and capability improvements
Coordinate site-wide emergency preparedness training, including Incident Command, CPR/AED, First Aid, and evacuation procedures
Plan, execute, and review emergency response drills, exercises, and audit activities, including underground scenarios
Provide leadership during emergency incidents and build strong relationships with external response agencies
