Freeport-McMoRan is a leading international mining company operating large, long-lived assets with significant proven reserves of copper, gold, and molybdenum. The Support Equipment Operator I supports mine production through skilled operation of heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

Daily work includes operating haul trucks, water trucks, rubber tire dozers, track dozers, excavators, motor graders, and front-end loaders. Tasks cover de-watering, materials delivery, berm maintenance, road building, stockpiling, and surface upkeep at production sites.

Operators follow strict procedures for equipment start-up, shut-down, LOTOTO, emergency response, and Blue Stake while communicating via dispatch system or two-way radio. Pre-shift inspections and awareness of ground personnel and hazards are required each shift.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months of mobile equipment operating experience
  • Completed academic and practical competencies required and demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills
  • Pass a written assessment based on skills, abilities, academic knowledge, and safety

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment in support of production including de-watering, materials delivery, maintaining berms, and surface maintenance at a skilled level
  • Operate haul trucks, water trucks, rubber tire dozers, track dozers, excavators, motor graders, and front-end loaders
  • Assist with training and mentoring of other equipment operators
  • Perform road building, managing stockpiles, road surface maintenance, building and maintaining road berms, loading trucks, and trenching
  • Conduct pre-shift inspection of equipment and perform minor maintenance activities
  • Communicate through computer dispatching system or two-way radio
  • Assist with operations support activities such as barricading shovels and power cable moves
