About this role

We are seeking a motivated Student and Academic Administration Officer to join the School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering. The role supports smooth operation of administrative functions across the Faculty of EAIT at the University of Queensland.

Daily work involves handling student enquiries, processing applications and enrolments, and managing academic tasks such as course profiles and grade processing. The position serves as the first point of contact for staff and students.

You will coordinate meetings, projects and events while maintaining accurate systems and procedures. The role operates within a high-volume environment at the St Lucia Campus in Brisbane.

As part of the UQ community you will work alongside leading academics and access professional development through the Study for Staff program. The permanent HEW Level 5 position offers stability and structured career pathways.

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
  • Demonstrated experience providing high-quality administrative and customer service support in a high-volume environment.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy in written work, with strong organisational, time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Strong working knowledge of student and academic administration processes, as well as relevant University policies and procedures, or the capacity to rapidly acquire this knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level administrative support to students, academic staff and professional colleagues within the School.
  • Deliver timely and accurate advice in line with University policies, procedures and legislation.
  • Act as the first point of contact for enquiries, resolving routine and complex matters.
  • Process student administration including applications, extensions, deferred exams, enrolment and remarks.
  • Support academic administration including course profiles, Blackboard updates, exams and grade processing.
  • Coordinate meetings, projects and events while maintaining systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
