About this role

This position operates and repairs complex mining machinery and equipment requiring extended training and experience. The role performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on all quarry equipment and tools, reporting defects and corrective actions to management staff.

Daily duties include operating mining equipment such as the crushing plant and rolling stock, conducting visual and manual inspections before start of operation, and calibrating the crusher's CSS each morning. The mechanic monitors the crushing process throughout the shift and communicates with the Plant Loader Operator as needed.

This role works closely with the Quarry Crew Leader, delivering detailed shift notes before the next shift begins. The mechanic also reviews and suggests modifications to work methods to increase efficiency, and assists co-workers with various duties as required.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with maintenance of heavy equipment
  • Good welding and use of cutting torch skills
  • Good motor skills
  • Valid driver's license
  • MSHA Training

Responsibilities

  • Operate mining equipment including the crushing plant and rolling stock
  • Conduct daily visual and manual inspection of crushing equipment prior to start of operation to ensure safe, proper working conditions
  • Calibrate crusher's CSS each morning before crushing begins
  • Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of crushing plant and other equipment while following all safety procedures
  • Monitor the crushing process and communicate with Plant Loader Operator in case of changes throughout the shift
  • Keep detailed notes from each shift and deliver them to Quarry Crew Leader before start of next shift
  • Review and suggest modifications to work methods to increase efficiency
  • Respond to after-hour emergencies as required
