The Quarry Plant Mechanic position centers on keeping aggregate and asphalt plants running efficiently through skilled mechanical work. Daily tasks include diagnosing equipment issues and performing repairs that directly affect production output.
Mechanics operate and inspect machines to identify defects, then dismantle and reassemble components using hoists, hand tools, and power tools. They examine parts for wear with micrometers and gauges, replace defective components, and perform welding on structural members. Regular service work includes greasing bearings, changing belts, and maintaining overall plant cleanliness.
The role requires close coordination with maintenance staff and other departments to ensure continuous plant operations. Employees must follow OSHA and MSHA regulations while maintaining accurate records of time and parts used. This position offers the chance to apply hands-on mechanical expertise in a production-focused mining environment.
Requirements
- Mechanical skills including knowledge of machines, tools, equipment, mechanic’s hand tools, power tools, welding and cutting equipment, lubricating tools, hoists, cranes, service trucks, diagnostic testing, electrical testing, and mechanical troubleshooting.
- Safety minded professional who demonstrates good performance, attendance and punctuality.
- Must pass pre-employment physical exam and pre-employment controlled substance testing.
- Demonstrates the ability to work overtime and weekends/holidays as needed.
- Demonstrates the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT and all other company or state rules and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains plants.
- Operates and inspects machines and equipment to diagnose defects.
- Dismantles and reassembles equipment using hoists, hand tools and power tools.
- Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
- Welds broken parts and structural members using cutting torch and welding equipment.
- Services and greases plant parts including changing belts and maintaining cleanliness of plants.
- Orders and maintains inventory of plant parts, grease, asphalt oil, and related supplies.
- Assists other maintenance department staff to assure efficiency of operations of all plants.
