About this role

Shape your career by joining Alcoa’s Vocational Placement program as a Mining Engineer. You’ll put university knowledge into practice at the Huntly Minesite while completing a project focused on productivity analysis of truck-shovel operations.

The placement runs in Semester 2 2026 for up to 150 hours with possible extension. You will conduct field-based time studies across drill, blast, load and haul activities to identify efficiency improvements in mine planning.

You will be paired with an experienced Mining Engineer supervisor who provides hands-on mentoring. Daily engagement with operational teams and equipment manufacturers supports data-driven insights for scheduling and equipment utilisation.

Requirements

Successful completion of a placement is mandatory for graduation or a unit of study
Self-motivated and passionate for their chosen discipline, eager to learn and expand their knowledge
Capable of working independently with the ability to communicate and engage with multiple stakeholders to obtain a project outcome
Strong team players with effective time management, organisational and problem-solving skills
Able to travel to and from your work location each day

Responsibilities

Conduct field-based time studies to assess operational performance
Analyse productivity across drill, blast, load, and haul activities
Engage with operational and mine planning teams to gather insights
Collaborate with equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to understand performance factors
Support identification of opportunities to reduce delays and improve efficiency
