About this role

Reporting to the Underground Construction Manager, the Mine Planner is accountable for creating value and mitigating risks associated with Underground Mine Planning scope at the Red Dog MLE Project. The role develops and maintains short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans to support safe extraction.

Daily responsibilities include preparing production schedules aligned with company targets while optimizing underground designs, haulage routes, and sequencing. The planner analyzes geological models and integrates them into plans using tools such as Deswik, Surpac, or Vulcan.

The position works closely with operations, geology, and processing teams to monitor performance against plans and KPIs. It facilitates coordination among contractors and operational personnel while engaging with Indigenous Governments and Organizations.

All plans must adhere to safety regulations, company standards, and environmental guidelines. The Mine Planner participates in risk assessments and prepares reports on progress, forecasts, and any deviations for management review.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in mine planning (open pit or underground).
  • Proficiency in mine design and scheduling software (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of mining methods, equipment, and operational constraints.
  • Data analysis and modeling skills.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Hands-on with a respectful, positive, solution-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Be a courageous safety leader, sponsoring Teck’s values and embedding a robust HSEC program and culture.
  • Develop and maintain short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans for safe, efficient extraction.
  • Prepare production schedules aligned with company targets and operational constraints.
  • Optimize underground designs, haulage routes, and sequencing to maximize resource recovery.
  • Analyze geological models and integrate them into mine plans using Deswik, Surpac, Vulcan, or MineSched.
  • Monitor mining performance against plans and KPIs, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure plans adhere to safety regulations, company standards, and environmental guidelines.
  • Engage with Indigenous Governments and Organizations and First Nations contractors to support the work.
