About this role

EY is seeking a Mining Advisory Manager to join its Minvest team within the Strategy and Transactions practice in Johannesburg. This client-facing role requires multi-commodity experience and a firm understanding of the mining industry, from technical reviews to mineral asset valuations.

In this role, you will execute proposals, manage projects, and ensure timely invoicing while advising clients on mining investments and strategic options. The position may require travel to remote locations and involves collaboration across technical disciplines including geology, metallurgy, and engineering.

You will work alongside a specialized team of experienced professionals including mining engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists, serving both strategic corporate and private equity clients. The team advises on the full transaction lifecycle, from strategic analysis through execution and integration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering
  • 5–10 years relevant practical mining experience at a mining operation or consulting company
  • Open pit and/or underground related experience is a must
  • Mineral asset valuation and evaluation experience is required
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of the mining value-chain
  • Exposure to Technical Due Diligence and Reviews
  • Exposure to International Public Reporting Codes including SAMREC, NI43-101, JORC and others
  • Strong computer skills including MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and general report writing skills

Responsibilities

  • Execute proposals and manage projects for mining advisory engagements
  • Conduct technical due diligence and reviews across multiple commodities
  • Perform mineral asset valuations and evaluations for client transactions
  • Utilize mining engineering expertise to conduct a full range of engineering functions
  • Collaborate with cross-discipline teams in a mining environment
  • Assist a Competent Person in Mineral Reserve estimation processes
  • Develop and mentor junior engineers and technical staff in consulting skills and procedures
  • Ensure timeous invoicing and project delivery for client engagements
