Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations is an open-pit copper mining complex in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine leaching system, four SX plants, and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode.

As an Apprentice - Fixed Plant Mechanic, you will learn and perform minor maintenance and operations activities independently or support journeymen. You will attend classroom training sessions and complete on-the-job training in the discipline. Perform safety inspections and operate maintenance mobile equipment like forklifts, stinger trucks, overhead and mobile cranes.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must pass the math qualifying test
  • Must have completed academic and practical competencies required and demonstrate aptitude by passing a written assessment on skills, abilities, academic knowledge and safety
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

Responsibilities

  • Learn and perform minor maintenance/operations activities independently with minimal supervision or support journeymen in their maintenance activities
  • Attend required classroom training sessions
  • Perform on-the-job training activities in appropriate discipline
  • Perform safe operation of maintenance mobile equipment such as forklifts, stinger trucks and overhead and mobile cranes
  • Perform work area and equipment safety inspections
  • Perform other duties as required

  • Estimated pay range of $20.00 - $26.50/hour reflecting base salary; actual pay determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors
