At Canadian Natural, we are proud to be a leader in Canada's energy industry. As a Reservoir Geomechanics Engineer, you will directly impact commercial scale thermal operations, including CCS operations, and the overall success of the company.

You will apply your demonstrated expertise in data integration and numerical modeling for Reservoir Geomechanics to optimize thermal operation strategies at our world class facilities. Your work will involve quantifying the geomechanical impact of thermal operations on reservoir and caprock integrity, and evaluating criteria related to CCS such as containment, injectivity, capacity, and induced seismicity.

You will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to optimize operational strategies and development plans, with the ultimate focus on maintaining and growing production in an environmentally sustainable way. You will link field-based observations with mechanistic explanations of reservoir and geomechanical impacts, and conduct analog data studies to identify important influences.

This role offers the opportunity to design and implement reservoir and geomechanical monitoring and mitigation strategies, and provide guidance on geomechanical laboratory testing, including a world class data set for over 8 km of overburden core. Requirements

4+ years of industry experience in Reservoir and/or Geomechanical engineering with a B.Sc. in Engineering
Expertise in data integration, data analysis, and numerical modeling for reservoir geomechanics
M.Sc. or PhD is considered a strong asset
Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
Demonstrated problem solving, communication, organization and leadership skills

Responsibilities

Work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to optimize operational strategies and/or development plans with the ultimate focus on maintaining and growing production, in an environmentally sustainable way
Quantify the Geomechanical impact of thermal operations on the reservoir and caprock integrity
Evaluate and quantify reservoir and geomechanical criteria related to CCS: containment, injectivity, capacity and induced seismicity
Design and implement Reservoir and Geomechanical monitoring and mitigation strategies
Link field-based observations with mechanistic explanation of Reservoir and Geomechanical impacts
Conduct analog data study and identification of important Reservoir and Geomechanical influences
Conduct numerical modeling of Reservoir Geomechanics
Provide Geomechanical laboratory testing guidance and review, including a world class data set for over 8 km of overburden core
