EXP

Raleigh, US · Full-time · $120,000 – $190,000

About this role

At EXP, an employee-owned multidisciplinary engineering firm, we provide innovative solutions for built and natural environments across the energy sector. Join the Energy Division supporting electrical power generation, transmission, substations, hydroelectric facilities, renewables, and high-voltage systems. This role can be remote or from any US office.

You will function as a senior technical authority and design lead on MV, HV, and EHV substations up to 765 kV, including HVDC and FACTS systems for transmission and renewable projects. Perform detailed electrical and physical design of utility substations from 15 kV through 765 kV. Provide leadership on EHV considerations like insulation coordination, grounding, EMF, clearances, constructability, and safety.

Collaborate with a highly multidisciplinary team across offices on complex high-voltage projects. Lead and review advanced studies including load flow, short-circuit, protection coordination, harmonics, and HVDC interfaces. Serve as lead engineer or discipline lead on multiple concurrent projects, managing scope and coordination.

Develop and oversee high-voltage design deliverables such as one-line diagrams, protection schemes, SCADA architecture, physical layouts, grounding, and lighting. Perform technical QA/QC reviews ensuring compliance with standards. This role offers long-term growth toward Principal and Technical Authority positions in EXP’s U.S. Energy practice.
