About this role
Reporting to the Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor, the Power Plant Mechanic performs specialized maintenance duties involving welding, high pressure/high temperature steam, and water lines. The incumbent performs Power Plant maintenance and preventative maintenance duties, with emphasis on alignment, millwright, machining, plumbing, tubing, and chemical applications.
Duties include preventative maintenance on boilers, air pollution control, pumps, coal equipment, liquid fuel systems, ash removal, pneumatic systems, auxiliary and support systems, plus the steam turbine and generator. General housekeeping of the work area is also performed.
The mechanic works under the Power Plant Maintenance Supervisor and must comply with federal and state law, university policies, and associated regulations. Overtime may be required for emergencies and breakdowns, as the role is designated essential to university operations.
Candidates must hold or obtain an ASOPE Facility 3rd class license within one year, with progression toward a 2nd class license preferred. This position offers a stable, full-time schedule with a salary range of $58,000 to $62,000, plus overtime eligibility.
Requirements
- Journeyman level mechanic experience.
- ASOPE Facility 3rd class license or higher, or ability to obtain within one year of employment.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, torches and welders.
- Ability to use all types of micrometers, dial indicator and laser alignment.
- Ability to interpret instructions and complete assignments independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialized maintenance on high pressure/high temperature steam and water lines, including welding.
- Emphasize alignment, millwright, machining, plumbing, tubing, and chemical applications in all work.
- Conduct preventative maintenance on boilers, air pollution control equipment, pumps, coal equipment, liquid fuel systems, ash removal equipment, and pneumatic systems.
- Maintain auxiliary and support systems as well as the steam turbine and generator.
- Carry out general housekeeping and basic maintenance of the work area.
- Ensure all duties are performed in a timely manner and in compliance with federal and state law, university policies, and regulations.
- Use hand tools, power tools, torches, welders, micrometers, dial indicator, and laser alignment.
- Respond to emergency breakdowns and work overtime as necessary.
